Dr Jafar Jafari

Dr Jafar Jafari is a renowned consultant clinical scientist specialising in Neurogastroenterology and GI Physiology. With a unique dual qualification in General Medicine and a PhD in Neurogastroenterology, Dr. Jafari stands as the only consultant on the UK’s Higher Specialist Scientist register in this field (as of March 2024) and the only consultant holding a medical degree. As the head of Upper GI Physiology Services at the largest teaching NHS hospital, Dr. Jafari has made significant contributions to the field. He founded GI Cognition Ltd., the UK’s first CQC-recognised mobile GI Physiology service, established the NHS’s first oesophageal biofeedback clinic and authored the leading textbook on GI breath testing. An esteemed academic, he is also an Honorary Senior Lecturer at King’s College London. His commitment to education extends to shaping the curriculum and contributing to national guidelines in various roles as well as through his position as the committee member of the BSG’s Small Bowel and Nutrition section.
