About Us

RefluxUK is a partnership of leading reflux experts who educate, diagnose and provide care for patients with reflux disease or symptoms associated with reflux disease.

RefluxUK was founded by Mr Nick Boyle, our Medical Director. He is one the UK’s leading upper GI surgeons with a special interest in gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD, or in America GERD) and associated conditions. We received Care Quality Registration (CQC) recognition in December 2020 and started to see and treat patients in March 2021.

Before we saw a single patient, we sat down and wrote down what really matters to us, to reflect the values and principles that we believe in.

Who Are RefluxUK?

Initially our focus was on the surgical treatment of reflux and we have grown to become the largest surgical private practice in the UK offering reflux surgery. Together, our surgeons are the most experienced in the country and between them have performed literally thousands of anti-reflux operations. Experience and volume are critical to achieve the best outcomes. Unlike most centres we believe in offering not just one operation but rather all the available options and tailoring the right solution for every patient. We therefore offer the full range of both the established operations such as fundoplication and LINX and have pioneered newer procedures such as RefluxStop and TIF.

However, today less than 10% of the patients we see undergo surgery and we have developed the profile of the services we provide, now offering specialist diagnostic, medical and dietetic services and advice to all patients with reflux type symptoms. Our team has evolved and broadened and now includes not only specialist reflux surgeons but also gastroenterologists, medical physiologists, dieticians, Ear Nose and Throat surgeons, radiologists and psychologists. They are all true experts, and we work collaboratively and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

Our practice is unique because we specialise in the treatment of reflux and its related symptoms specifically. Unlike other providers, all of our time is focused on helping reflux patients to understand their symptoms and then to treat them. We believe that this specialism contributes to the quality of our outcomes which are comparable to the best centres anywhere in the world.

Because of this expertise and focus we are very familiar with the frustrations that too many patients describe. Far too often they tell us that they have spent sometimes years trying unsuccessfully to get a proper diagnosis for the symptoms they are experiencing. Our mission is to provide you with a definitive diagnosis and the effective treatment you are seeking. We do this in several ways.

Firstly, we work with only the best specialists who really are experts in the treatment of reflux. Clinical skill is the absolute key. We use the best and most modern diagnostic technologies to identify the cause of symptoms; these are often essential to help work out the right diagnosis. We interpret diagnostic results using our multi-disciplinary team (MDT) approach. This is central to our success. It brings together our reflux experts from different disciplines to review difficult cases. This approach helps us deliver accurate diagnoses and informs our decision on the best treatment option.

Because we’ve been specialising in treating people with reflux symptoms we’ve seen literally thousands of patients. This has helped us design the best pathways and to gain enormous experience not only in diagnosing and treating typical reflux disease but also other associated conditions such as LPR and SIBO.
